1962 - Railcars on the Scrap Line..
Taken in 1962
Ex-GWR AEC diesel railcar W21W at Kidderminster shed in 1962, with another of the class on the left, and a ‘prairie’ with number plate removed on the right..
The railcar had entered service in 1940, and was withdrawn in 1962, and scrapped at Swindon in 1963.. Two examples of these ‘angular’ units have survived into preservation, along with one of the earlier streamlined examples:

Today (2025) GWR car 22 (once BR W22W) is operational at the Didcot Railway Centre, where it was seen in 2009:

The other surviving car - W20W - is the subject of a long-term restoration project at the Kent and East Sussex Railway..
Kidderminster shed closed down in August 1964, and the site is now part of a housing estate..
