1964 – 4-LAVs in the Sun..

Taken in November 1974

Ex-Southern Railway 4-LAV units 2934 and 2926 at Patcham, near Brighton, on a bright sunny day in November 1964. The nearest unit still has the old BR ‘unicycling lion’ emblem on the side..

These units were introduced in 1932-33 for the Brighton Line electrification, and had all been withdrawn by 1969.. In later years, 2926 had no toilet facilities, so was known as a 4-NOL, and was withdrawn in May 1968. 2934 was withdrawn in January 1968, and all units were scrapped, although some cars were used for a time as departmental stock, and none have survived.

Today (2024) this view would be obscured by substantial tree growth...

Restored from an unfocussed orange-colour-shifted original..
