Line of Shame...
Taken in about 1973
Withdrawn BR Clayton Class 17s at St Rollox carriage sidings, on a misty day in around 1973, with blue-liveried D8574 nearest the camera..
The class were unloved and unreliable, and some only lasted around 5 years in service.. D8574 had entered service in 1964, and was withdrawn at the end of 1971, and was finally scrapped in September 1975.
Amazingly, one of the class survived - after being sold off for industrial use - and today (2023) is based at the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway, and has been in operation on the Severn Valley Railway..
Restored from an over-exposed faded pink-colour-shifted original..
Original slide - property of Robert Gadsdon
