1964 - 'New Numbers, at Eastleigh..
Taken on October 3rd 1964
Eastleigh loco works erecting shop in October 1964, with Merchant Navy pacific 35004 ''Cunard White Star'' on the right, and ex-Crosti 2-10-0 92028 behind, and 4MT 2-6-4T 80084 in the background.
In typical BR fashion, 35004 has a newly-applied number, with the rest of the cab left grubby. 92028 has a newly-cast smokebox numberplate, still unpainted..
35004 was withdrawn in October 1965, and scrapped in February 1966. 92928 was withdrawn in October 1966, and scrapped in January 1967. 80084 was withdrawn in June 1965, and scrapped in October.
None of the ex-Crosti 9Fs were preserved, but eleven MN pacifics have survived, and fifteen of the BR Standard 4MT tanks..
Parts of Eastleigh works are still in operation today (2023) for overhaul and maintenance of EMUs and locos.
Restored from an orange colour shifted original..
