1965 - Taking Numbers...

Taken in 1965

Swindon loco works in 1965, with North-British 'Warship' D847 ''Strongbow'' and Brush prototype D0280 ''Falcon''..

D847 entered service in April 1961, and was withdrawn in March 1971, and scrapped one year later. None of this class survived, but two of the very similar BR-built examples have been preserved.

D0280 entered service in October 1961, and was renumbered to D1200 in 1970, and appeared in BR blue livery, but was finally withdrawn in October 1975, and scrapped in April 1976.

Swindon loco works finally closed down in 1986, although some restoration work on the chassis of GWR 2-8-2T 7200 was carried out there in 2000 - 2006. Today (2023) one of the buildings is used to house the Swindon 'Steam' museum..

Restored from an under-exposed orange-colour-shifted original..
