LMS EMU and 'Lightweight..
Ex-LMS DC EMU M28319M at Southport station in around 1967, and Met-Cam 'Lightweight' DMU on the right, with car M79631 nearest the camera..
The first of these DC units entered service in 1940, and all had been withdrawn by November 1980, after which a couple of cars were retained for departmental use for a few years.
One two-car set was retained for preservation by the National Railway Museum, and operated from 'Steamport' for a few years in the 1980s, but was later put into storage and deteriorated in the open air for several years. It was rescued by 'Friends of the 502' in 2007, and moved to covered storage in 2012, and today (2023) is under long-term restoration at the Merseyside Transport Trust in Burscough, Lancashire.
DC electric suburban passenger services here are now operated by 'Merseyrail'..
Restored from a cyan colour shifted original..
