1966 - Nottingham Victoria Farewell..

Nottingham Victoria station on September 3rd, 1966, the last day of passenger services on the Great Central mainline.

Thompson B1s 61131 and 61173 have arrived with the LCGB 'Great Central Rail Tour', and are waiting in the sidings on the right, and Bulleid 'Merchant Navy' pacific 35030 ''Elder Dempster Lines'' (out of shot, to the left) will then take the special back down south, to Marylebone.

Pioneer BR Sulzer Type 2 D5000 is on a BR passenger train, on the left.

61131 was withdrawn in December 1966, and 61173 a month later, and both locos were scrapped in early 1967. Two members of the class have been preserved.

D5000 became Class 24 24005, and was withdrawn in January 1976, and scrapped in April 1977, and four examples have been preserved.

Today, the station has completely vanished, and this location is now a hotel and shopping centre, but the bus station nearby is still called 'Nottingham Victoria', and the old clock tower still exists..
