1966 - Nottingham Victoria Panorama

Nottingham Victoria station on September 3rd, 1966, the last day of passenger services on the Great Central mainline.

Thompson B1s 61131 and 61173 have just arrived with the LCGB 'Great Central Rail Tour', and Bulleid 'Merchant Navy' pacific 35030 ''Elder Dempster Lines'' will then take it back down south, to Marylebone. There is the usual mad dash up the platform to take photos of the locos.. Some of the trackwork has already been taken up, on the right.

35030 was withdrawn at the end of steam on the Southern Region, in July 1967, and scrapped in 1968. 61131 was withdrawn in December 1966, and 61173 a month later, and both locos were scrapped in early 1967.

Today, the station has completely vanished, and this location is now a hotel and shopping centre, but the bus station nearby is still called 'Nottingham Victoria', and the old clock tower still exists..

Restored from an orange/cyan colour shifted original..
