1992 - Sole Survivor, in the Sun..

North Eastern Railway DC 'Tyneside Electric' parcels van 3267 at the North Tyneside Railway in September 1992, with an ex-BR Class 03, and Peckett 0-6-0ST 'Ashington No.5' in the far distance.

Parcels van 3267 is the sole survivor of an entensive DC Electric suburban system opened by the NER in the early-1900s, and was converted to a loco-hauled de-icing vehicle in 1938, and finally withdrawn in 1966, after which time it deteriorated in storage.

Restoration began in the 1980s, and today (2019) the unit is in NER red/cream livery, as seen here, at the Stephenson Railway Museum, which is part of the NTR.

The red/cream livery was adopted by the LNER for the entire 'Tyneside Electric' fleet, but changed to blue/cream during the war, as the red was considered too visible.. The LNER-built Shenfield Units for the GE Line electrification were also turned out in blue/cream livery, but never entered service at that time due to the war, but were put into storage, and finally entered service in 1949, in drab BR EMU green.
