1967 - Stanier Tanks, at Wrexham.

LMS Stanier 2-6-4Ts 42616 and 42647 at Wrexham Central station in spring 1967, with the R.C.T.S.

'Wrexham, Mold & Connah's Quay Railway Rail Tour'.

42616 was withdrawn in October 1967, and scrapped in March 1968, and 42647 was withdrawn soon after this phpto was taken, in May 1967, and scrapped in November of that year. No examples of the class were preserved.

Wrexham Central station became a single-platform terminus when the line beyond closed to passengers in 1969, and all but one platform were demolished. Freight traffic beyond the station ended in 1981, and those tracks were lifted. The station closed completely in November 1998, and was demolished, but a replacement - basic - station was constructed back up the line, to the left of this photo. The old station site is now part of a shopping centre.
