1990 - Enfield Town Train, at Lower Edmonton

BR AM5 - Class 305/1 - EMU 402 at Lower Edmonton station in May 1990, with a GE Suburban service from Liverpool Street to Enfield Town. These units had entered service 30 years earlier, to replace N7 0-6-2Ts and Quint-Arts.. They were an unusual design, with an open saloon and low-backed seating, and large rectangular windows.

They had started to be replaced in the mid-80s, and a few made their way to the Manchester area in the mid-90s, but all were eventually scrapped.

Lower Edmonton station opened in 1872, and was the second station in this area. The original 1840s station - 'Lower Edmonton Low Level', on the single-track branch from Angel Road - finally closed down in the early-1960s. Lower Edmonton was renamed to 'Edmonton Green' in 1992, and today (2018) the station platforms look much the same, and the classic GER canopies still exist.
