1967 - Storage Depot..
A selection of BR Standard and ex-LMS locos at Carlisle Upperby loco shed, in summer 1967. The shed had closed to steam at the end of 1966, but was still being used for loco storage..
Locos on view include BR Standard 5MT 4-6-0 75019, LMS 8F 2-8-0s 48666 and 48400, LMS 'Black 5' 4-6-0s 45279 and 44864, and LMS/BR 2P 2-6-0 46522. The 2P was on its way to the scrapyard, but - despite appearances - all the others mentioned went on to other sheds, and survived in service well into 1968, but were all later scrapped. Several examples of each have been preserved.
Some of the shed was still in use for carriage maintenance until the 1990s, but most buildings were later demolished. Today (2017) there are some sidings here still in use, and part of the land is occupied by Network Rail offices and materials storage.
