Vintage Diesels, at Crewe South..

A selection of early diesel shunters at Crewe South shed, in the mid-60s..

On the left is 12055, which entered service in 1949, and was withdrawn in July 1971, and scrapped in May 1972. Behind that is ex-LMS jackshaft-driven 12031, which entered service in July 1942, and was withdrawn at the end of 1967, and scrapped in July 1968. Also on shed are a BR Sulzer Type 2 - later Class 25 - and Class 08 shunter, and LMS Stanier 'Black 5' 4-6-0, and Ivatt 'Flying Pig' 2-6-0..

Crewe South shed closed in November 1967, and today (2016) the site is partially overgrown with trees and bushes, but there are still some freight sidings in use..

Restored from an unfocussed grainy high-contrast magenta-colour-shifted original..
