1985 - Centennial 'Boat', Back in the USA..
Ex-Blackpool Corporation 'Boat' tram 228 at MUNI's Geneva depot in September 1985, with ex-St Louis PCC 1108 beyond..
228 had crossed the Atlantic four times, and had been sent from Blackpool to Philadelphia to participate in the 1976 Centennial celebrations, and had to be re-guaged to 5ft 2.5in to run on the tracks there. The car was re-numbered to 603, and painted in the livery shown in this photo.. It returned to Blackpool in 1978, and - being out-of-gauge - was left in storage until it was acquired for MUNI in 1984, and shipped back to the USA again - this time to San Francisco. The car was re-gauged back to 4ft 8.5in, and restored to operation - with lowered trolley tower - as Blackpool 228, and operated during the later 'Trolley Festival's, and later on the restored 'F Line'.
Today (2015) 228 is in occasional operation on the E and F Lines, and was seen here at the MUNI Herttage Weekend in November 2015:
