1967 - 'Black 5' and ''Thundersley''..

LMS 'Black 5' 4-6-0 44971 reversing off the turntable at Carnforth shed in 1967.

In the distance is 'preserved' London Tilbury and Southend Railway 4-4-2T ''Thundersley'', which was at Carnforth to have its dome removed, to avoid overhead electric overhead wires on its trip south to be stored at Brighton.

44971 survived in service ultil the end of steam on BR in August 1968, but was scrapped in early 1969.

''Thundersley'' is currently (2014) on static display the the Bressingham Steam Museum, in Norfolk.

Carnforth shed still exists, as a preservation centre and workshop, but is no longer open to the public..

Restored and enlarged from an unfocussed, grainy, purple-colour-shifted half-frame (16mm) original..
