LMS Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48723 - built in 1944 at Brighton Works on the Southern Railway - at Heaton Mersey shed on a sunny day in 1967.
The loco remained in service until the end of steam on BR, in August 1968, and was scrapped in December.
Thirteen examples are known to have survived into preservation, in the UK and the Far East, although some are in a derelict state, and one has been used as a parts donor for other preservation projects..
Heaton Mersey shed closed in May 1968, and the site is now an industrial estate..
