Date and Walnut loaf

 

Summary

Ingredients

225 g (8oz) dates

150 ml (1/4 pint) water

75 g (3oz) butter

75 g (3oz) sugar

1 Egg, size 3, beaten

225 g (8oz) self raising flour

75 g (3oz) walnuts, chopped

 

Method

1. Chop the dates and pour the boiling water over them.

 

2. Cream the butter and sugar, beat in the egg

 

3. Stir in the flour and nuts and lastly the dates and the boiling water

 

4. Place mixture evenly in the tin and bake for 1 1/4 hours on 180C / 350F

 

5. Test the loaf is cooked by pushing a knife into it and ensuring the mixture is not sticking
