DS284 From Randy, For Randy

Topic: Make a photograph with soft light today. Try to almost totally eliminate shadows on your subject.

I didn't want it easy. There was no sunshine today here. I could have just gone outside, held out my hand with something and pressed the shutter. Instead I'm showing that a light source can be harsh as long as it is not stationary. This exposure was several seconds long, and the light source was a LED flashlight I turned around a couple of times to eliminate any shadows.

We received this golf ball from Randy, a big fan of Dallas Cowboys, and he cherished this ball--it was kind of a lucky charm for him. The Cowboys were everything for him. Randy welcomed us warmly, helped us settle in, and simply became a great colleague and friend. He would be 45 now... For 11 years he's been resting in a Baldswinsville, NY cemetery. Pancreatic cancer took him when he was 33. He fought for almost a full year.

This ball is all that's left of him for us.
