Thomas of Tortuga
Torbrücke-class light cruiser wartime
The Torbrücke-class is a heavily armed light cruiser designed for fleet actions. Its main armament consists of 18 torpedoes, 9 on each side, in order to flood the narrow straights of the Boreatic archipelago in times of war. However, it also carries eight 6" guns, allowing it to protect the commerce, merchant fleets, and rail ferries that form the lifeblood of the Boreatic League's trade-based economy. Guns and torpedoes are arranged asymmetrically in order to fit as much firepower as possible on a small hull. Astute naval designers may be able to recognize the point on this ship's construction when political authorities went "wait, we're paying how much for only that many weapons?" and ordered torpedo and gun armament to be increased by 50%. Luckily, the ship had already built with a deeper-than-average draft, giving it the stability to handle upgunning (at the expense of top speed). All guns and torpedo mounts can rotate 360 degrees, however, and gun crows have been issued with monogrammed headphones and tailored rain slickers to help them handle the open mounted guns in the heat of battle.
In wartime, the ship is painted in a series of greys to reduce its visibility and allow it to hide in the morning haze.
