038/366

While attempting some late-night long exposures I was approached by "Busy," who inquired what time it was. A glance at my watch and I realized time had gotten away from me as it was nearly 7:30. I hadn't gotten much for a worthy photo during the night, I walked and he wheeled alongside and asked me if I wanted to get a photo of him doing a flip at the skate park. We shared a laugh, but I did tell him we could do a portrait in the style of his choosing (even if I had the slightest hopes that he would do a trick in the chair).

As we arrived at the skate park he told me that he was in the process of trying to get away from some problems in the city, unfortunate actions were finally catching up with him. While I felt bad for him he seemed to see a light of sorts and explained to me why it would be better to just turn himself in. He'd have free meals, a place to sleep that was safe, and a gym to keep up his strength. I asked how long he thought he'd be locked up for, and he answered quickly that it might be a year or less depending on behavior (apparently not his first stint). I told him that I hoped we would cross paths again in a year and reminisce about the night's events.

He smiled and decided we should get a photo before he had to make up his mind, he went to the light and looked up. Clicking off a few frames at ISO 16,000 given our light was dim and in short supply. I shared with him the results which were met with agreement that we had one that would work. He then asked where he could get a copy, which I didn't have my phone on me but he told me the shelter where he had connections that I could bring a copy of the photo and someone would get it to him. We shook hands and he disappeared into the night and I walked back to my car, hoping the best for his future.
