Tree-beard

This is the oak tree on Cannock Chase that is thought to be the idea for the "Ents" in J R R Tolkien's Lord of the rings.

Tolkien lived about three miles from this tree, he also did his army training in the camps that were on the Chase. He could have walked past the tree most days.

It is at its most impressive this time of year without any foliage.
