Outfall from Warnham Mill Pond,

This brick built bridge dates from around 1928, although a bridge on this site is known to have existed in 1509. It spans the Red River and carries the B2237 which joins the A24 in one direction and heads into Horsham town centre in the other.

Until 1965 this was actually the main A24 which ran through the middle of Horsham.

On many occasions late on a summer Sunday afternoon in the early 60s, my mates and I, perhaps returning home from a day at the outdoor swimming pool in Horsham park, would be amazed at the amount of traffic seemingly stuck without movement on this road heading back to London from the coast at Worthing.

I'm sure it must have been exasperating for the drivers and their passengers and many cars would have overheated and required a top up of water in the radiator.

This all changed with the opening of the Horsham by-pass in 1965.
