“Locally known as Chand Baori, this magnificent stepped-baori was built by Raja Chand or Chandra, A Nikumbha Rajput of the Chahmana dynasty. He ruled Abha-Nagiri otherwise known as Abhaneri during the 8’th and 9’th century A.D. This is one of the earliest Baori in Rajasthan. The 19.8M (65ft) deep baori is square in plan and enclosed by pillared verandah’s with an entrance on the north. It multiple cascading flights of steps with 13 landings on the South, East, and west, while multi-storied pavilions (bathhouses, temple) vertically line the north side. Two projected niches on the lower story enshrine the image of Mahishasurmardini and Ganesh. The well was in use continuously until recent times.
