27: Thanksgiving In August
T = Thankful
Appreciating how much I have. Health, a safe and peaceful home and country, education, food, access to information and people, family, friends, support, and most of all, love. But the list goes on. It is, at least for me, so easy to focus on that which brings the most pain, and forgetting everything else -- everything that gets me out of bed each morning. There are always those things that I would change if I could, but I know I would be a different person in return. I am who I am; a clay mind molded by my past and present experiences: thoughts, passions, hatreds, acquaintances, interactions, dreams, nightmares, music, films, art, animals, colors; and I am my future desires, hopes, wishes, fears, and so on. I am thankful for all of this.
I am so very thankful for all of you and your thoughtful words, gestures, efforts, when you saw me going through troubled times. I am thankful to have been exposed to your beautiful attitudes, wisdom, and concern. I felt very vulnerable and anxious when I posted yesterday's Sweetly, and I couldn't have asked for any more. I have been grounded, and I feel warm and safe, as though wrapped in a quilt you've all sewn for me. Thank you!
Lastly, I am thankful that I am about to turn 23 (ten days!). Still young, I know; but there are still too many who can only dream of being 23, or being 23 and healthy/safe/in a stable country. Sure, I think American politicians are sleazy and our current administration is shamelessly corrupt. But, having traveled to more countries than the number of years I've lived -- from Ghana to Nicaragua to Israel, and everywhere in between -- I know better than to take for granted what does work and thrive here.
I could go on forever. Instead, I'll end my list here, admittedly incomplete, and on a lighter note: I am thankful for my hawt new glasses. I lurve them. I feel like a female Woody Allen... perhaps Woodette Allen? ;-)
