nurtured nature

I'm currently reading a book by Michael Pollan called "Second Nature" One of the ideas he talks about is the value of the pastoral or cultivated land. Much of the work describes his experiences gardening, thinking about the impact of cultivating land and it's value to himself and society. I am a big fan of his other books and this one seems to be just as thought provoking.

This image was made at Dorris Ranch in Springfield, Oregon. This is a working Filbert orchard, the first in the United States. Almost all Hazelnuts/Filberts produced in the US come from decedents of these trees.
