The town of Saxapahaw (sax-ah-puh-HAW) is hands down one of my favorite little hidden gems in the triangle area. This tiny rural town on the banks of the Haw River, was barely a blip on most folks radars until a few years ago when ambitious butcher turned chef Jeff Barney took over my favorite brunch/lunch spot in the triangle -the Saxapahaw General Store. - Now a destination foodie spot for folks all over Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Greensboro and even Winston-Salem. The SGS is a clever mix of farm-fresh food and service-station atmosphere. Where you can grab a quart of motor oil and a cold craft beer while you wait for a gourmet sandwich and a slice of house made key lime pie. - Today I’m enjoying my new favorite sandwich in the whole wide world, the Bahn-Mi. It boasts house braised coconut milk pork shoulder, pork liver pate, lemon garlic aioli, sweet chili sauce, house pickled veggies and fresh cilantro on a toasted hoagie roll. I am not exaggerating in the slightest when I say that I would fight a bear with my own two hands for this sandwich. It’s THAT good.
