Taking A Me Day

The day I learned I had cancer.

After several weeks of enduring (and stubbornly working through) atypical lower back pain and searing rib pain, I finally dragged myself into an emergency room.

I’d been living with the urologic complications from an enlarged prostate for approximately a year and those weren’t improving either.

When I dressed for work following the May Long Weekend I cinched my belt and my legs buckled.

I was midway through my 59th trip around the sun and I had to admit this was a bad sign. My spouse took me straight to emergency and I didn’t argue.

Credit to the staff and attending physicians at Leduc Community Hospital for a quick diagnosis and a same-day cat scan.

By the time we discovered the cancer it had already metastasized into my bones and lymph nodes. Whoops.

Don’t ignore the signs guys. If it hurts, get checked.
