Eternal Flameon Square for the Victims of National Socialism

The monument is made up of four Ts holding up a cage in with an eternal flame in remembrance of those who died at the hands of the Nazis, be it their political beliefs, race, religion, sexual orientation or disability. Diagonally opposite was the Wittelsbacher Palais, which was destroyed during WWII. During the Third Reich, the Gestapo had its Munich headquarters in this palace and also operated a prison. In 1946, the city decided to rename the place "Square of the Victims of National Socialism" (Platz der Opfer des Nationalsozialismus).
