Broad Strokes
How to have movement in a still photograph? A contradiction in terms, but an interesting question nonetheless.
While you need multiple still images shown in succession to create the illusion of movement (i.e. movie), a far more interesting topic is how to depict movement. As there is no specific technique, it’s left to one’s own interpretation. Whether you use a long shutter speed or short, both can (and sometimes cannot) convey the feeling of movement. It gets interesting when you think about the appropriate length of time for the shutter to be open. Is there a too low or too fast shutter speed to NOT convey the feeling of movement? And how about the timing of the shutter release?
