Inside Lascar Memorial, Napier Road, Calcutta (Kolkata)

Located on Napier Road, Calcutta (Kolkata) along the banks of the Hooghly the Lascar Memorial was constructed in the memory of 896 seamen (locally called Lascar) of Bengal, Assam and upper India who laid down their lives in the service of British India during the great war (WWI) of 1914 - 18.

The memorial was designed by architect William Ingram Keir and was inaugurated by Lord Lytton, Governor General of Bengal, in 1924.

Presently maintained by the Indian Navy, who restored the memorial in 1994.

This photo was shot during Apeejay Kolkata Literature Festival, organised by Kindle Magazine. Thanks to Nidhi Dugar Kundalia, Feature writer of Kindle magazine for inviting me to the event.

Also thanks to my friend Akash for lending his 11 - 16 mm lens.
