McCormick Tribune Campus Center IIT | Excelon Tube Ceiling Light
This is photograph of the ceiling at The McCormick Tribune Campus Center, located at 33rd and State Streets on Chicago's south side.
The ceiling is kept in this unfinished state — Drywall, mud and tape. I've heard that the contractor was not given enough money to purchase the wood paneling/veneer that was supposed to go here, so they kept it this way. Probably the most beautiful "F-U" ever given.
This light fixture is installed above a stairway, just before the entrance to the auditorium space where AIGA Chicago www.aigachicago.org held a lecture series on September 24th 2009. Look for a video of that from me soon. It looks light light-sabers on ninja sticks. Amazing!
