Challenge #63: Full splash ("full sprut")
To me, one of the best things to do in summer is to sit down with a good book and relax with a cold beer. And one of the most summery beers is Corona served with lime. There's something about the freshness and the colors. And that's what I wanted to convey here: freshness and color.
I've never done a proper splash shot before, but this challenge seemed like the perfect opportunity. It also helped that I have some great inspiration in my growing collection of favs. Just check out these images: Strawberry 2.0 by Hermanau, Ka-Splash by Brynjar and Splash 2 by Boy with Nails in his Eyes.
Technical details
Camera mounted on tripod with my Canon 100mm macro at f/16, 1/250 sec and ISO 200. Used my Canon EF 580EX II flash in manual mode at 1/4 power with a dome diffuser at camera right. I mounted two Lastolite TriFlips with silver covers on each side of the glass of beer in addition. (Check the behind the scenes shot below).
Post-processing consisted of cropping, adjusting curves and adding clarity and sharpness to the lime. Also did some selective color adjustments to get the image to "pop" a bit more. The brunt of the work was to clone out fruit pulp -- there was quite a bit floating about after dropping limes many, many, many times into the beer. :-)
