The Great Mosque of Djenné in Mali is the largest mud brick building in the world.
This building, completed in 1907, is the third construction of the Great Mosque of Djenné. The first version is said to go back to the 13th century. The facade of the Great Mosque needs repairing every year. Mud bricks seem not to be the most long-lasting building material. The whole city of Djenné is built of mud bricks, as you can see in the foreground.
