Basilica Minore de San Miguel Arcangel, Tayabas

Facade. Quezon Province.

It was first built in 1585 and repaired in 1590 using nipa and palm by Franciscan Friars. In 1600, an edifice made of bricks was erected but this was destroyed by an earthquake in 1743. The church was later rebuilt and made bigger in 1856 by the addition of a dome (cupola) and transept. Despite many renovations, the church has remained largely intact over the years. During the 2nd World War, bomb sharpnel damaged an adjacent convent, which was being used as a Japanese garrision.

This is one of the National Cultural Treasures of the Philippines. It features seven chapels done in the neo-classical style.
