Saturday's with Rusty

I really miss not having a dog since losing Jasmine in March. Emory and I have lost all structure to our day not having a dog...becoming couch potatoes and not going on our morning/ afternoon walks.

 

I'd love to adopt another dog but Emory [my husband] says "no" because of Rusty. He's afraid that a new dog would frighten Rusty too much given the tough five years he had with Jasmine. ..which is still fresh in his mind.

 

I don't mind taking a break from having a dog this summer as we do need to focus more on our cats and having a dog/ or puppy is a lot of work and time commitment.

 

But eventually, I hope Emory will realize that if we go about it the right way and find the "right" puppy [ or adult] the cats will be fine and we can help a dog in need of a home.

 

Another fear we have is the prevalence of cancer and how it takes our pets from us way too soon. Although it isn't a concern early on, eventually it would be--and we're still traumatized over what happened to Jasmine.
