Abandoned [by their mother] kittens--

Got a call on Weds from a lady who found five kittens on her property that had been abandoned by their mother. Sadly, the mother cat went missing [ a friendly stray she & neighbors had been feeding] leaving her babies behind.

 

I took pics of them yesterday and took to my vet for treatment for mild upper respiratory infection and something I had never seen before--severe suckling on the male's private part making it painfully swollen, Apparently if kittens are removed or abandoned by their mother too soon [as these were] they will suckle on each other.

 

Initially the no-kill cat shelter turned the lady down telling her they were too crowded and couldn't take them. I got involved ....[ and caused a lot of unwanted rukus] and the shelter is now trying to find a place for them to be fostered.
