Henry Bannister - child Herbert
Henry Bannister's son Herbert Bannister was born on 26th June 1873 at Wincham, in the District of Northwich, in the County of Chester - which is Cheshire.
A lot of these old Birth Certificates can be confusing because of District, sub-district, and County changes. And with ever expanding town boundaries, old villages, once entities on their own, are now suburbs of some big urban sprawl ... for example - Headington, Barton, and Cowley in Oxfordshire, where some of the Bannister family lived and were born ... they are all now part of Oxford.
When son Herbert was born, Henry Bannister was working as a Labourer at a Salt Works - a gruelling occupation indeed. Henry was originally a cabinet maker, before he moved away from the comforts of his home in Beckley village. No-one as yet knows why he followed two of his brothers to Headington where they sought work in the Quarries, hauling stone and becoming stone masons.
For whatever reason, Henry moved from Oxford to Cheshire and started work in the salt mines. Later birth certificates show that he gave up this job and started a Greengrocers.
