Manchester Central was built by the Cheshire Lines Committee (CLC) and became the terminus of the Midland Railway in the city.
It closed completely on 5 May 1969 and subsequently lay derelict until Greater Manchester Council acquired it in 1982, converting it into the G-Mex Exhibition & Conference Centre, which opened in 1986.
