Nature Bazaar 2012
It feels so good to click again after long time :)
Long Story short: Nature Bazaar by the Dastkar is going on right now in Bangalore e-zone club, Marthahalli I guess it will be up for some 8 more days. In the interest of Art, please go and visit.
Long Story Long: Some of my friends (who live in marathahalli) Decided to volunteer for one of the stalls in the Nature bazaar. The stall was called Jugaad (Organised by an NGO called Karm Marg). Since the venu (Palace grounds) was closer to my place, The plan was that they will come to my place friday evening, we will get up early saturday, and will go and volunteer.
Against all odds, we got up, hit the road, reached palace grounds, saw the board of DASTKAR, got in and searched for the event all inside. when we couldnt find it, we asked the watchman who was standing at the gate, he pointed us to the same board we saw while entering, but this time we noticed the big bold text saying "VENUE SHIFTED TO MARATHAHALLI"
Well, it was a long way from there to marathahalli, but we were hell bent to make the Saturday Arty and Crafty, so we set on again, On our way we dropped by the Mother earth shop at inner ring road (according to the theme of the day). I have been to Mother Earth store before but this time I discovered that the average price levels have increased four folds since the last time. so we set on again, had lunch, and reached the Nature Bazaar at 3.30. there was not much scope of volunteering any more so we decided to play visitors.
Just when we reached Jugaad stall after roaming around a bit, the lady of the shop was telling someone that 4 people mailed her for volunteering and none of them showed up. We raised hands and said.. hey we are those people :D
We roamed around the place for 4 hours and still missed a lot of stuff. It is a big place full of colours, lights, artifacts, puppets, furniture, paintings and what not. We saw lamps made out of dried up bottle guard, unbelievably detailed madhubani paintings, intricately carved wood work, unique leather products, Parents teaching their kids the ancient art form of Kite Flying, beautiful useful things made up of useless leftover materials, china dishes, bamboo works, cane works, uncountable number of lights and lamps etc etc (4 hours is a lot of time and one can spend much more if one really plans to appreciate each and every shop). There are stalls from every state of India. and all of it with nice folk music playing in the background.
Any way, two of the four of us are successfully volunteering today (sunday).
I would highly recommend to all my friends Living in Bangalore to go and visit and Buy things from here in the interest of Indian Arts. The prices are pretty low (compared to mother earth price levels, here it is almost as if for free)
