Randy Rhoads
Here's something cool I've had in a frame for decades. Taken by someone I used to (sort-of) know on December 31st, 1981 at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. That was one of the first of the Diary of a Madman tour dates.
I never got to see that tour. I saw the Blizzard tour, but Randy died just as he was arriving in Florida for the Diary dates. Orlando would have been the third show on the southern leg of the tour and the crash happened the day before it was scheduled.
BTW, the show was going to be one of the Rock Superbowl shows (by making it one word instead of two the promoters managed to keep the NFL off their back) and the headliner was Foreigner. The lineup was supposed to be Foreigner, Ozzy, Bryan Adams and UFO. I didn't buy a ticket because I really always detested Foreigner and Bryan Adams and didn't want to deal with all that for short sets from Ozzy and UFO. I was waiting for 'em to come around as a headliner and of course it never happened. A friend of mine had tickets to the show, though. It wasn't cancelled. They replaced Ozzy's spot in the lineup with Pat Travers.
Anyway, Randy on the tour I never got to see.
