Hebrew Headstone
I made this negative on November 9, 2008 - the 70th Anniversary of Kristallnacht. I made this in the Seligenstadt Jewish cemetery (Germany). It was destroyed on that night in 1938; in fact this headstone was destroyed and reassembled later.
For me, this image has a lot of metaphors about those events - death, destruction, walls/barriers, isolation, distortion, etc. To see something that was destroyed/broken and put back together reminds me of the Jewish struggle.
This is an 8” x 10” Waxed Salt Print from a Wet Plate Collodion Negative.
