Tutoring
Last night I tutored a physics student for the first time since I left NC State's faculty. It felt good for two reasons. The first is that I enjoy working with students and seeing them grasp ideas that were previously out of reach. The second is that I actually was able to use calculus to work the problems! A semester of physics without calculus is a drain on a person's psyche and severely limits an instructor's ability to actually teach meaningful physics. I'm glad Mines doesn't even offer an algebra-only section.
