HMS PRINCE OF WALES Naming Ceremony
HMS PRINCE OF WALES, the second of the Royal Navy’s two Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers being built by the Aircraft Carrier Alliance, was officially named today during a ceremony in Rosyth, another momentous event in the year of the Royal Navy.
Guests watched as Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Rothesay, HMS PRINCE OF WALES’s new sponsor, named the 65,000 tonne aircraft carrier. In keeping with tradition, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Rothesay triggered a bottle of 10 year old whisky from the Laphroaig distillery in the Isle of Islay, to smash against the ship’s hull.
