Top plate mounting holes drilled, tested.

1/2" holes drilled out with the drill press, tapered/deburred afterward. Marked area on the right will be cut off so the entire top plate is the same width as the signal base.

 

Center hole for the wiring will be drilled out after the tube is acquired. I'm still in the air on whether it'll be square or round.
