Beware the man of one book

Today I took a photo suitable for both my one-a-day and also for my submission to this week's photo assignment which is themed: Read a Book.

I really enjoy reading, generally always have a book on the go and it makes me quite sad to think me that more people don't experience the enjoyment and often enlightenment that comes with reading great books. I think there a lot of people missing by never venturing beyond the current best seller or movie adaption, hence the title I've chosen for this photo.

I pulled a bunch of suitable books from my bookshelf and when I found the general book of ignorance I just knew I had to use it in my shot somehow. I played with a few different compositions on different surfaces eventually settled on this composition on my lounge floor. I used a tripod and did my best to really think about all of the lines in the shot to make everything as harmonious as possible. I tried a few shots with a flash gun but didn't like the result so in the end I opted for a low ISO, long exposure shot using what was remaining of the natural light coming in from the window several feet away. I increased the aperture a little more than I was initially intending as I wanted to include some of the textures from the stack of books and the floor.

EDIT:

I was really pleased to discover that this shot was featured in Explore for May 5th. Thank you all, I appreciate your feedback! :)
