One for everybody
This is my second photo for this week's photo assignment, the theme this week is: Kickin' it Old School.
There were a couple of directions that one could go in when thinking retro. For some people it might be items that you perhaps don't see any more but I was interested to explore the nostalgic feelings conjured up by things which maybe are still available but when arranged in a certain fashion can instantly take you back in time.
My first attempt was a photo of a bike laid on the floor in a careless manner but for my second photo I wanted to try and capture a child's party bag.
As a child one of the most exciting parts of visiting a friend's birthday party was receiving the party bags which would normally be handed out towards the end. These normally consisted of a few inexpensive little toys and trinkets along with some sweets and perhaps a balloon but to a small child these bags are quite simply magical.
I really struggled with the composition for this image and I'm still convinced that there was a more pleasing arrangement waiting to be discovered. I bought a few suitable items and played with a number of different combinations. I have discovered that still life can be very challenging. The photo has been de-saturated and tinted slightly to give it a more nostalgic feel. I have also given it a square crop as I think it worked better than the landscape version of this shot.
