Ramses II
While on tour in 2010, I spotted these Children gazing up at one of the great Pharaohs of ancient Egypt, Ramses II.
Ramses II (1303 BC – 1213 BC) commonly known as Ramses the Great, was an Egyptian pharaoh. He was the third ruler of the Nineteenth Dynasty. (This statue is in the Luxor Temple. There are other Statues of Ramses ll, the most famous is at Abu Simbel)
Along with Thutmose III of the Eighteenth Dynasty, he is often regarded as the greatest, most celebrated, and most powerful pharaoh of the New Kingdom, which itself was the most powerful period of ancient Egypt.
Ramses II is also widely considered one of ancient Egypt's most successful warrior pharaohs.
