BE-09 Cargo Truck and Crane Combo
"Mornin', kiddo. Put on your boots and grab a shovel." Markus climbs up and out of the cabin. Eventually, Leon finds his way onto the roof of the truck as well, shovel in hand. "What's the situation?" he asks, both towards Markus and out into the fields of fresh snow that stretch towards the horizon. "Lots of snow. Truck's stuck", Markus states in a calm, matter-of-fact manner.
"Ah, shit." Leon heads towards Markus at the rear end of the truck, leaving prints on the hefty layer of snow blanketing the top of the truck. "Clear out the crane", commands Markus, as he shovels piles of snow off the truck.
The two eventually clear out enough snow to get the crane moving without any trouble. The boom arm lifts up, shaking off whatever remnants of snow still stuck between the girders. Markus waves his hand in a circular motion from above the cabin, as Leon dials in the crane from the control pad at the rear of the truck. The crane slowly turns towards the ledge, poised above the ridge overlooking the truck.
"You sure this is going to be fine, Markus? We could just wait for the snow to melt a little."
"You were the one complaining about being late. Don't want your missus to run off now, do we? Ah, ah, stop it there. Bring it down now."
Leon sighs, giving a defeated look. He pushes down on another button on the pad, shaking his head as the crane begins lowering.
The arm makes contact with the soft snow sitting on the ledge, pushing deeper until it hits solid earth. The crane whirrs loudly, torquing as much as its motor can. A momentary pause lingers in the air as neither crane nor people move. Leon looks towards the crane worriedly, then towards Markus even more so. Markus grins.
After a brief moment, the entire truck shudders as the entire ledge-facing side is lifted by the force crane against the ledge. Leon stumbles as the surprise hits him, the truck tilting, throwing him off his station onto the sand. Markus crouches down to grab onto a railing, balancing on the truck as if it were a surfboard on the waves. "There she goes!" he shouts, exuding pride and glee.
The crane locks into it's lowest position, holding the truck up and out of the snow. The two large adaptor wheels ledge-side stick up and out, uncovered and unburied, released from their snowy shackles. The workhorse of the tundra, ready to roll no matter the situation.
"You're insane!" cries Leon, patting off snow as he gets up off the ground, trundling back towards the truck. With a big smile on his face, Markus' hearty laughter echoes from the roof of the cabin out towards the open fields of snow - a small beacon of joy in the endless expanse of Hibernia. 2/2
