Honen-in 法然院

The gardens and halls of Honen-in are only open to the public for two weeks every year. I never went in the past couple of years, because I did not expect a lot. However, the Buddhist altar in the main hall is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. I wish I could somehow get a permit to photograph it from the temple.

The temple itself had two big gardens as well as smaller gardens between the buildings. One of them has two Camellia trees. Unfortunately, they were not really blooming this year due to the cold weather. Monkeys ate the buds. :D

I strongly wish they would open their garden for 2 more days at the end of May for the "new green" season. But I guess, as long as you are not called Mizuno Katsuhiko, you will never get access to pearls like these... :/
