Full Circle Favas
These gorgeous favas were planted by volunteers (including yours truly ;-) at some of our first workdays at Full Circle Farm.
Most were plowed under to fertilize the soil (favas are fabulous nitrogen fixers), but many were harvested and SOLD!! to Jesse Cool (mama to Cool Cafe, Flea Street Cafe, and Cool Eatz in Menlo Park, and member of our advisory board). They were supposed to sell for $1.80 a pound, but they saw how gorgeous the beans were and paid us $2.00 a pound instead (thank you so much, Jesse!) and also given to hard working volunteers. Proceeds will go back into running the farm.
These particular favas are extra special to me, because they were picked by my baby sister, who spent a sweaty Saturday on the farm during her visit from Portland, volunteering in the garden.
(Confession: I took this at home, but I'm geotagging it at FCF, because that's where the favas came from ;-). These favas travelled 4.3 miles from field to table!!
